Project Assessment
Thorough Read-Through with Detailed Assessment Letter
A comprehensive edit requires at least two passes through a book manuscript or a manuscript partial (usually between 50 and 100 pages). In the Project Assessment, we outline what is and isn’t working in your manuscript in terms of craft, your chosen genre, and specific passages in your draft, and offer revision strategies addressing the big picture. Once you’ve considered the feedback, if a developmental or substantive edit looks like the appropriate next step, this service can be factored into the following services.
Developmental Edit
With Marginal Notes and Full Editorial Letter
In our first pass of your manuscript, we assess the big picture from the reader’s perspective. In the second pass, we add marginal notes from beginning to end addressing strengths, weaknesses, and inconsistencies within a passage or chapter, providing clear explanations of the problem and examples of how it might be resolved—how you use the advice is left to you, the author. The editorial letter, normally between five and ten pages, includes a full-scope, constructive assessment of the project’s strengths and challenges with respect to your handling of craft, style, and genre, and offers strategies for revising your work to its fullest potential.
Substantive Edit
With Marginal Notes and Full Editorial Letter
This service includes Developmental Editing with close attention to line editing for voice and flow. Attention is also given to the overall structure of the manuscript.
Synopsis and/or Query Edit
Separately or with Your Manuscript
You’ll receive in-line corrections with marginal comments on your Synopsis or Query, plus a one to two paragraph evaluation of overall effectiveness with suggestions for tightening your pitch.

One-Time and Ongoing Consultations
